PADI / SSI diving course in Koh Tao, Thailand

Posted by on 10 March 2011

If you like to dive and want to get your PADI or SSI (it’s like your diving licence) so you can dive freely anywhere in the world, the cheapest place to pass it is in Koh Tao in Thailand. There are many diving schools on the island.

The PADI Openwater allows you to dive until 18m.
The PADI Advanced Openwater until 30m.

I got my PADI Openwater in 3 and half days for 9800 baht (240 euros) and my PADI Advanced Openwater in 2 days for 8600 baht (205 euros) at Carabao Diving, a diving school with french managers. For that price, accomodations are included. It’s not included with all schools. Ask before you commit with a school, it would make you save 350 to 800 baht depending on where you are staying. Just so you know, on the Andaman coast on the other side of Thailand, you pay 16 000 baht (380 euros) for the PADI Openwater.

For the PADI Openwater, there’s one day of theory in a classroom, and the rest happens in the water, with exercices/skills and fun dive.

For the PADI Advanced Openwater, it’s just 5 dives, no theory class.

Here’s a video to show you how it is:
