After movies in 3D, come movies in 4D. The first movie theater to feature this technology opened in South Korea, then Mexico and Bangkok on June 29th, 2011. Even in the United States, there’s no movie theater of this type yet. This video introduces to this new technology, and also presents the Siam Paragon Cineplex in Bangkok, where it is possible to watch movies in very nice conditions that do not exist in France.
This investment of 1.5 million dollars aims to give the viewer a better experience by providing new features as:
- moving chair
- scents
- fog / wind in the room
- air and water spray on the face or in the neck
For those who have been to Disneyworld, it’s kind of a mix of Star Tours and Honey I shrunk the audience except that these effects are now integrated in regular movies who were not designed with these features in mind. So it’s now possible to see Transformers 3 or Captain America in 4D.
A programming lab should open in Los Angeles very soon to help filmmakers to integrate this new technology. In South Korea, 4Dx performances exceed by at least 1.5 times the occupancy rates for films shown in regular cinemas and the company plans to open 600 more 4dx theaters in the next 3 years.
